Quick question… genesis 1:26 “let’s make man after our likeness”… which likeness/image is being talked about here?
in 1 john 4:8, the scripture says that “God is love”, so i think the image of God is love
God is Spirit, so when we talk about the image of God its not the physical image but the spiritual image…the human is love creature…
In “our likeness”…God is a triune God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
See John 1:1-5
John 1:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
To answer your question, @ChristopherChloe, both! The image and likeness of God the Father and God the Son. I assume, since we have a triune God, it’s also God the Holy Spirit.
The most essential image of God is love. The Genesis Chapter is talking about God’s creation of love.
God is love.
